Somatic Healing Therapy

Listening to the body's innate wisdom

Somatic healing refers to a holistic approach to healing that involves the integration of the mind and body. The word "somatic" pertains to the body, and somatic healing recognizes the connection between physical and emotional well-being. This approach emphasizes the body's role in processing and releasing emotional trauma or stress.

Somatic healing involves present moment awareness and explores bodily sensations through gentle touch, micro movements and verbal dialogue.

The underlying principle of somatic healing is that the body holds and reflects one's emotional and psychological state, and by addressing physical sensations and movements, individuals can promote healing on multiple levels.

The work within Somatic Healing Therapy is continuous, and requires dedicated time, energy, and curiosity as you explore your own depths. Your facilitator is there to guide your experience, but each client will lead how sessions unfold, and will be able to decide the course treatment takes as the work continues. Clients will be sent home with a journal to help them understand their bodies, their experiences, and their sensations, all facets of the creation of a deeper level of healing. This journey of somatic healing therapy has the potential to unlock deep levels of transformation for those dedicated to doing the work on a continuing basis.

Mackenzie offers somatic support sessions to anyone hoping to live a more easeful and embodied life while cultivating a stronger sense of self. These sessions are beneficial for those looking to become curious about their bodies and strengthen the relationship with their mind. Somatic therapy is also great for anyone currently in treatment for but still experiencing symptoms of anxiety, depression, panic attacks, ADD/ADHD, chronic illness, injuries, and chronic pain. Sessions can result in the easing of the above conditions, increased mobility, the release of tension and overall promotes a sense of relaxation and increased sense of pleasure.

  • What to expect when working with Mackenzie: the first few sessions will be all about establishing safety in the nervous system and noticing how that feels in the body (like we’re taking a microscope to your inside world). This may look like introspective conversation, guided meditation, breathwork, and supportive touch- the emphasis is to slow down and settle in. Once the client is able to sense how it feels to enter a state of safety in the nervous system, we will invite in verbal dialogue and supportive touch at the feet, hips, shoulders, and head.

A somatic vocabulary will then be developed throughout the sessions to heighten the client’s mind-body relationship. Once there is an awareness of physical sensations and emotional responses, integration can occur which ultimately leads to healing. The process is slow and subtle and requires vulnerability and the desire to release what no longer serves.

We suggest recurring sessions to get the most out of somatic healing therapy.
